The yolk’s on us

One of the headlines on the front page of the Tennessean today (02.07.25) reads: “Egg price spikes, shortages to persist.” It brought to mind a Bible story.

Once when Jacob was boiling stew, Esau came in from the field angry and said to Jacob, “I’m starving! Let me devour some of this red stuff…”

Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright today.”

Esau said, “Since I’m going to die anyway, what good is my birthright to me?”

Jacob said, “Give me your word today.” And he did.

So Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. He ate, drank, got up, and left, showing just how little he thought of his birthright. (Genesis 25: 29-34, CEB)

Given what I’m observing, I’m thinking a little less than half of the American voters sold our American birthright for the promise of a carton of eggs.

Thanks for this profound insight about our current national situation. When a few suburban families near us bought chickens and put in their backyards, the neighbors expressed humor. Guess who is laughing now? Keep on posting!
